How to use

the box

Step 1: Watch the Pre-party prep Videos

Watch these 3 short video clips to get a feel for what’s involved in the party.

Step 2: Invite Your Guests

Our Science Party themed stationary provides the perfect way to say it big and bold – it’s time to get the word out!

Step 3: Gather equipment for experiments

This Chem-mystery themed box includes all the supplies needed to complete the experiments, but there are some common household utensils you will need to supply. The section below will walk you through what’s needed for each.

Step 4: Decorate Your space

Use the balloons and birthday banner or science lab signs to help make your chosen space feel more like a fun science laboratory!

Step 5: Activate Your Party

Click the big red ‘ACTIVATE’ button to get this party started and gain access to our exclusive science demonstration and experiment explainer videos! *Remember access to these videos is only valid for 14 days from activation.

Step 6: Repurpose or reuse you kit

At the end of the party distribute the equipment from the box into party bags for the children to take a ‘science lab in a bag’ home OR pass on the Party in a Box to a family member, friend, teacher or group to use and share the fun!

AIR-MAZING PARTY

WELCOME TO THE SCIENCE PARTY – ROCKET BALLOON

Text to explain experiment: No party is complete without balloons, so let’s launch a screaming rocket balloon into the room, in this introductory experiment!

Equipment supplied in box:

  • Rocket Balloons with straw

Additional household equipment required:

  • Lungs to fill the balloon or balloon pump!

EXPERIMENT 1 – MEGA BALLOON

Text to explain experiment: Challenge your friends to inflate this 6 foot long mega balloon with just one breath! Find out how it can be done using science in this visual experiment.

Equipment supplied in box:

  • Mega balloon

Additional household equipment required:

  • A friend to help!

EXPERIMENT 2 – BALLOON POWERED CARS

Text to explain experiment: Discover Newton’s third law of motion and race these cars using the power of air!

Equipment supplied in box:

  • Balloon cars

Additional household equipment required:

  • Flat, smooth surface to race the cars!

EXPERIMENT 3 – HOVERING BALLS

Text to explain experiment: Defy the force of gravity as you make these balls hover, creating a levitating illusion.

Equipment supplied in box:

  • Polystyrene
  • Foam balls
  • Biodegradable straws

Additional household equipment required:

  • Hair dryer

EXPERIMENT 4 – PAPER COPTERS

Text to explain experiment: Explore the science behind flying machines by constructing flying airplanes, falling paper copters and propelling spinning toys.

Equipment supplied in box:

  • Paper copter – to cut out
  • Paper clips
  • Prop-top toys
  • Model aircraft, to build

  • Scissors

EXPERIMENT 5 – VACUUM CUPS

Text to explain experiment: Have a tug of war with air! Are you strong enough to break the vacuum?

Equipment supplied in box:

  • Suction cups
  • Vacuum hemispheres
  • Syringe & tubing

  • Grown-up to help

EXPERIMENT 6 – AIR CANNON

Text to explain experiment: Get blown away as you explore air pressure further with leaping balls and puffs of air!

Equipment supplied in box:

  • Paper cups
  • Paper targets
  • Ball popper
  • Foam balls
  • Plastic cones
  • Large balloons

Additional household equipment required:

  • Scissors
  • Sticky tape

EXPERIMENT 7 – CARTESIAN DIVER

Equipment supplied in box:

  • Paperclip
  • Straw
  • Plasticine

Additional household equipment required:

  • Empty 300ml-500ml water bottle with screw cap
  • Bucket of water to submerge the bottle

EXPERIMENT 8 – SLIME TIME

Text to explain experiment: Everyone loves making slime, but how does this stretchy, oozy fluid

Equipment supplied in box:

  • Goggles
  • Slime pot with lid
  • Lolly sticks for stirring
  • PVA glue
  • Borax solution
  • Pipette

Additional household equipment required:

  • A wipeable surface to make it on
  • Somewhere to wash your hands afterwards!

When your party is complete the contents of the box can repurposed in three ways (1) separate the equipment out into party bags for the children to take home and reuse in more science experiments (2) regift the party in a box by giving it to a friend, Scout or Girl guide group or even a school teacher so they can pass the fun on (3) buy refills for the Party in a Box so you can do the party all over again!
